Just thought I would do a post in appreciation of Wax Converters Textiles and their stalwart presence in the Australian Manufacturing Industry. Almost the last bastion of Australian-made canvas with the world's best practice of canvas manufacturing and undoubtedly the best canvas product in the world.
Did you know canvas weight is no indication of its waterproofing ability? In 2012 WCT engaged CSIRO to do an independent study comparing the water penetrative characteristics of a popular imported canvas with their Australian-made product.
The results speak for themselves:
WCT specifications are clearly evident and available for any type of canvas purchased. This is rarely available for Imported equivalents.
It is common practice for Imported canvas weight to be measured after the waterproofing and rot proofing process which adds approximately 2oz to 4oz to canvas weight. For the most part Australian canvas weight is determined prior to this process.
So a reminder to please buy Australian-made products wherever possible before we lose this option like we have lost so many others.
